One island, one road, and Clayton's, the biggest beach bar in the US. Where to go, where to sleep, what it costs, and the card that gets you into all of it. Thirty years of running spring break, written down.
One island, one road, and a beach bar big enough to be the whole spring break.
South Padre Island is the simplest of the three Maniac cities. There's one road, one main venue, and one week that all of Texas shows up for. In 2027 it's still the most affordable way to do a real spring break, no flight required for most of the state, no passport, and a beach bar built for exactly this.
One venue carries the whole week. Here's Clayton's, the only spot on the Maniac card, plus what's worth knowing for the rest of the day.
The biggest beach bar in the US and home base for the week. Day parties from noon, night parties til close, and the beach stage that hosts the headline concerts, seven days straight.
Rooftop parties with Gulf views and sunset cocktails, the spot to ease into the evening before Clayton's takes over for the night.
An iconic multi-level venue right on the water. Beachside decks and seafood by day, DJs and themed nights once the sun's down.
Maniac runs the South Padre event calendar out of Clayton's, day parties daily, headline concerts through the season.
See South Padre eventsSouth Padre hosts spring break events, parties and concerts all March at Clayton's. Beach parties by day, DJ sets and themed nights after dark, and a concert lineup on the beach stage.
A single event ticket runs $20 to $60 at the door elsewhere. The Maniac VIP card covers every day and night party plus the concerts, all week, from $90. If you're going more than a couple nights, the card wins.
Cardi B, Lil Wayne, Aoki, BigXtheplug and Tiësto all played the beach stage in March 2026, free with VIP. 2027 is announced in January.
Some South Padre hotels and Airbnbs require guests to be 21+, or run noise rules strict enough to get a group evicted on night one. Booking blind is how people end up on Padre Blvd at 2am with nowhere to go.
Per person, for the March 13–20 week, split four to a room. South Padre runs lower than PCB or Fort Lauderdale on rooms; the card keeps the rest down too.
The real choice most Texas students weigh every year, drive to the island or fly to Mexico. Here's the straight comparison.
Rooms and party packages get more expensive the closer March gets. Here's the order.

Contact usSouth Padre Island's spring break week runs March 13 to 20, 2027. It's one concentrated week rather than the multi-week stretch you'll see in Panama City Beach or Fort Lauderdale, since most of Texas breaks around the same time.
Yes. Clayton's and the Maniac VIP card are open to 18+, though you'll need to be 21 to drink alcohol inside most venues.
Plan on $550 to $1,400 or more per person for the week, depending on your room split and how much you spend beyond the card. The Maniac card is the one line item that doesn't go up if you go out every night.
Free entry to Clayton's day parties, every night party, and every concert on the beach stage, all week, from $90 with a $20 down payment plan.
Book through our partner StudentEscape for hotels that expect spring breakers and sit a walk from Clayton's, rather than risking a 21+ or no-guest policy on your own.
Walk it if you're staying central, or use the Wave Shuttle, a golf cart, or Uber for the rest of the island. It's one road, Padre Blvd, end to end.
South Padre skips the passport, the flight, and the exchange rate for a very similar beach-party week. Most of Texas can drive there in a day.
